Carnaval das Culturas (Just like happens in Berlin!) "Languages disappear, a thousand year old traditions are forgotten, works of art are destroyed. In a world ever-more interlinked, the risk of standardization of the cultures of the world has never been so great. It is necessary to alert the world on the importance of the preservation of the cultural diversity of the peoples. The diversity of the Earth is not only constituted of plants and animals (biodiversity), but also of languages and cultures found in the different human societies (cultural and linguistic diversity). An alert: the loss of this diversity can be so harmful for the planet as the devastation of the environment. The year of 2002 was proclaimed the Year of the Cultural Heritage by UNESCO, the fund of the UNO for education and culture, which alerted in official notice: the modern world is threatening the cultural inheritance in the same way that it threats the environment. The cultural diversity is not less necessary than the biodiversity; and the wars are the biggest threats to the cultural patrimony of the world."
